What Inspires Me

I find myself extremely lucky to live in a reality where there is so much that inspires me. Inspiration, passion and perspective are the three words I found myself writing in all of my college admission essays and end-of-the-year reflections, and those that I continually look for when describing who I am.

This being only my second blog post I thought it necessary to tell you about me and I can't think of a better way of doing that then through the people, things and concepts that inspire me.

There are a long list of strong women who I look to for great inspiration starting with my mother, and including the magazine moguls like Anna Wintour, Cipe Pineles and Joanna Coales, fictional characters like the one and only Carrie Bradshaw and Penny Lane, historical figures like Jackie Kennedy and finally the real lifestyle girls, Emma Watson and Lauren Conrad. This, of course, only calls out a few of many. My list of inspirational women continues to grow everyday and for that I am thankful. Finding myself fueled by other women instead of cutting them down for their success is a really good quality and I continually challenge myself to practice it. BUT also declaring this platform a no judgement zone, I am human believe me

Let's start with my mother, Christi, because she is so much a part of my life and someone you will definitely be hearing about in my posts going forward. My mom and I are extremely close, she is a cornerstone in my life and her support has been constant my whole life, which is crucial for a girl like me. We like to call each other best friends and I think we both learn a lot from each other, We all have those days when a girl just needs her mother, and I am so lucky to have mine! I hope to do a post on Mothers and Daughters in the future..so stay tuned. Below are a couple of our fun outings to Atlanta, New York, Charleston, Athens and my smaller hometown Gainesville, GA:)

Another person I am very inspired by is Helen Frankenthaler, an artist you probably aren't familiar with. I went through a phase of being utterly obsessed with art history during my freshman, sophomore and junior years of college and it was in these classes I came upon her name. Helen Frankenthaler was an abstract expressionist painter in the mid-20th century and her art really intrigued me. She was a women artist among men, such as Pollock and Kline, and I immediately took interest. When I viewed her art, I got that feeling of inspiration, which I believe is a feeling that can't be explained correctly, but we have all felt it at one point or another in our lives. It made me want to want---if you aren't following, this all might just sumize to the romantic in me--but it was definitely revels the core of my inspiration. These people I have listed here and above is where I feel engaged and the most centered.

Helen Frankenthaler, Sagittarius, 1967; High Museum of Art

I really love the idea of having role models in life because it is very centering! Whenever I am down, having writers block, or simply (against by best efforts) not being able to get my day started, looking to Gal Meets Glam's blog for the latest post gets my creative ideas flowing or I pick up the book I am reading right now, The Women I Want to Be by Dianne Von Frustinberg. By the way that book is $13 on Amazon and I highly suggest.

I am also inspired by the people I work with! As a senior at UGA I am still working towards my undergrad degree in Journalism with a minor in Communications. But I had the great opportunity to work at a highly esteemed publishing company in Atlanta called Modern Luxury. Below is a snapshot towards the end of my internship (lol this sign was in a many of photo ops and was right smack dap in the front of the office so EVERYone saw me and my friend Claire take this pic). I was inspired by the editors and I worked with and wrote about while at Modern Luxury, which only fueled by dream of working at a magazine even more.

So that is just a little snapshot into my life without a completely formal introduction! Again through each blog post, I hope to instill my voice a little more each time. I hope that this blog can serve as some inspiration for my readers and add a little commentary to the everyday coffee drinkers or wine sippers. Stay tuned for more inspiration to come!
