Things You Need To Do This Week
Overall, I don't like telling people who to do, because at the end of the day...what do I really know, BUT I do love giving suggestions on things that have really surprised and inspired me so check out some of these things this week.
First things first, watch Lady Gaga's Documentary "Five Foot Two" on Netflix as well as follow her live mediation guidance on Instagram. With Mental Health Awareness day just a couple days behind us, the star is taking to her Instagram to promote the importance of the seemingly invisible issue of mental health. I tuned in for a couple minutes and it was a very cool experience to see a star, as big and blow out of proportion as Lady Gaga, in a raw, stripped and personal state. The whole mediation was 20 minutes long and I didn't stay on the feed for more than 5, which pointed out to me my inability to stop everything during my day. Meditation is very important and it appears to me that having someone to do it with makes it easier, so check out Lady Gaga's Instagram and aid in "taking the stigma away from mental health," a phrase I am positive you have heard a million times over.
Buy Some Face Masks
Along the same line, personal health and hygiene is important too. Lately I have really been into face masks of all types. I have tried the black peel off kind that hurts like a b*tch, the clay seaweed type, the self heating and the classic green avocado one--I have tried them all. Doing a face mask after a long crazy weekend full of sleeping in your makeup is the perfect pampering and rejuvenation for your skin. When I was little and would watch my mom's extensive routine of makeup remover, cleanser, toner, moisturizer, night cream, wrinkle under-eye cream and sunscreen in the morning, and I thought that would never be me, I can barely remember to wash my face. But as we get older I have realized how important it is to take care of your skin. Doing a face mask is my way of striving towards that extensive routine, or it at least makes me feel a little better about a couple days of sleeping in my makeup.
What to Buy from Trader Joes
After basically four years of cooking for one in college I like to say I have gotten a little bit better at it. There are still times when I stare at my fridge and have absolutely nothing but ever since I lived down the street from Trader Joes this summer, I have been hooked. First of all Trader Joes is so inexpensive and high quality, I could rave about this place forever and I know it is not a new establishment but it is new to me as an new "adult." I suggest buying the 2 Buck Chuck, the cauliflower rice, squash, "just chicken," and the Island Soyaki sauce. Through this all in a stir fry pan and bam my low cal chicken fried "rice," you can also add an egg for the full effect.
Where to go out to dinner
OK so apparently Athens got a Poke Bowl place called Ahi Hibachi and Poke, which is the best news I have heard since Beyonce dropped her Lemonade album. According to my friend Katelyn, it has been opened "for like a month" which makes me mad because I have been in the dark about it for so long! Ok, yes poke (pronounced Po - que) is the new wild trend that millennial are obsessed with, along with rolled ice cream and egg burgers, but Poke is in no way overrated. This Hawaiian originating meal is colorful, aesthetically pleasing and comes in a ton of different variations. Poke makes me feel refueled and detoxed as the same time, it is light and has a myriad of flavors all combined into one bountiful bowl.
Clean Your Bathroom; a important chore that people often forget about.
Since living in my own house, I have found how wildly important it is to deep clean your bathroom, which is something (I'll admit) I had never thought about, having a cleaning lady named Karen my entire life. I am totally owning up and acknowledging that this is a privileged life style, and it leaves me with no idea that cleaning your bathroom is a chore you need to do at least 3 times a month. Due to short amount of time and not being perfect I, a lot of times, get away with just once a month if we are being honest. It is a great Sunday activity and therapeutic way to literally and figuratively "cleanse" your life. In a girl's bathroom our hair sheds EVERYWHERE, scrub the shower walls, scrub your counter where you do your make up, dust all the surfaces that are not seen visually, believe me it will make you feel a billion times better when you are feel sucky.
Where to shop: Online at Reformation
Reformation is an online store that is "suggested" on Instagram and while I usually avoid things like that, I clicked on shop now. So this is a clothing brand based out of Los Angeles that practices responsible manufacturing, uses sustainable fabrics and works to cut out the environmental impact of the current clothing industry. A lot of people, myself included, don't realize that our bargain clothing from other online websites probably came from a sweatshop, were people work under horrible conditions. The best part about Reformation is that their prices aren't insane and the styles they are cranking out are very minimalistic and on trend. I recently bought this top, which I think will be great for fall and it is in the "Gen Z Yellow," the successor to last year's "Millennial Pink." Both which are featured in this clip from the Reformation website, they got it all going on.
